Filmmaking for mission-driven organisations to shine a light and lead the way

Charities, social enterprises and non-profit organisations are the changemakers and trailblazers. We know, because we've worked in the third sector for many years and have seen, first hand, the impact that the third sector has on meeting the needs of individuals, pioneering new ways forward and influencing change. Audio-visual media has never been so important and that's why Light & Star Media was founded. We're here to help your organisation meet its goals through audio-visual media, whether that be fundraising, awareness raising, increasing reach, influencing change or demonstrating impact.

Age UK

Age UK provides support, guidance and advocacy for older people in the UK and also raises awareness of the issues they face. They asked for a short film that captured the activities and ambience of their '80 years young' anniversary event, which kickstarts a range of events celebrating their history and heritage.

Medair

Medair delivers emergency relief to hard-to-reach areas suffering from conflict, disease and disasters. They asked us to produce an emotionally engaging video for an upcoming fundraising campaign.

ABC To Read

A literacy support charity in Berkshire that works with 500 children every year to improve reading skills. They asked us to produce an illustrated video that tells the story of the impact of their work, to boost donations, volunteers and support.

Naked Truth

A UK and international charity working in the field of sex and relationship education, and recovery support for individuals and couples. They asked for a media series of one-to-one interviews with experts in the field. This short teaser is to promote the series, ahead of its release in Summer 2025.

Wivey Cares

A small charity in Somerset delivering care in the community for elderly residents so they can remain in their own homes and active in the local community. This video is aimed at attracting donations from individual donors and businesses.

The Ferry Project

A homelessness charity that provides accommodation and the skills needed to live independently. They asked for a short film to celebrate the charity's 25th anniversary to demonstrate impact to their supporters, donors and funders.

Why you should choose us

01

We understand the third sector

We have lots of experience working in the third sector ourselves, so we understand the demands on your time and resources. This means that we will be flexible and understanding of your requirements and needs, and we will always have one eye on how each shot, scene or talking head can speak to multiple stakeholders at the same time (e.g. small donors, trust funders, supporters, policymakers). We've also put together a page of useful links for charities based on our experience in the sector.

02

We are passionate about social change and social justice

We passionate about creating a more equal, inclusive, diverse and habitable world, and we know that charities, social enterprises and non-profit organisations are at the heart of driving such change. Because of this, we will immerse ourselves in your organisation prior to filming, so that we fully understand and champion what you're about. We will do a deep dive on your mission, vision, goals and activities. This will help us plan for, and capture, the most impactful footage on the day(s) of the shoot.

03

We know what funders are looking for

Whether your film is explicitly for fundraising or not, funders are likely to see it and your film can be recycled for fundraising appeals and applications. With our experience in charity fundraising, we can help co-create a film which addresses the priorities of funders whilst remaining focused on the core message of the film. Emotionally engaging storytelling is the best tool at our disposal, but we will also encourage you to consider other areas that are of interest to funders such as impact measurement, lived experience and sustainability.

04

We place ethical storytelling at the centre of our work

Charities, social enterprises, and non-profit organisations strive to tackle complex problems and support vulnerable groups. Telling these stories on camera can be daunting, and it’s essential that participants’ voices are represented respectfully and authentically. We place ethical storytelling at the heart of every stage of the production process - from planning and filming to editing and follow-up - ensuring that everyone involved feels valued, supported, and accurately represented.
